What is Home?

Ever since the beginning of July (when the first movers came and packed up our stuff in our house in Germany) change has been normal in our household.  We've moved multiple times before, but this one seems to have gone above and beyond the normal move.  Our family has moved across continents before, but this one had more significance.  This time, one of the five would be going to college.

It seems weird to think that we are now coming to the age of taking thinking for college seriously.  It seems like just a few weeks ago, that Micaiah, Abi and I were pretending to be adults and go off to school.  Now, we don't even think about pretending to go to school.  That'd be crazy.  Time flies, and it sure feels weird.  But yet, we still somehow grow comfortable, until God gives us a gentle push telling us that it is time to move on.

A month and a half of change.  We've moved all the way from Germany; flying over Europe, an ocean, and halfway across the States.  Then, half of the family drove up to Idaho to settle Micaiah in at college.  Spending a week there, we headed back to Kansas City, MO.  Now, we prepare to head south to El Paso, Texas at the end of this week.  During this whole process, I've been getting a slight dose of home-sickness.  But, what is home?  Where is home?

According to Dictionary.com, home is, "the place in which one's domestic affections are centered."  I particularly like this definition.  It is to easy to think that our home is where we live.  But I would disagree and say that, home is where our family is.  Or where those we love are.  What we call, "home," is just a building.  What really is our home is the people we love.

We can move from house to house, but our family will not change.  Even when some move and go to college, they will never not be apart of your family.  Your home.  Just like the church, "20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18:20) The church isn't just a building, it is the people who make up the body of Christ.  Home is not just where you live.. it's where those you love who live with you in fellowship.  That is your home.

P.S. Here are some photos of the trip I caught.
