Tell Me Stories About the Saints of Old

"And did they tell you stories 'bout the saints of old
stories about their faith
They say stories like that make a boy grow bold
Stories like that make a man walk straight."
- Boy Like me/Man Like You by Rich Mullins

I never got to meet my grandfather.  He died at the age of thirty-three.  My mom was only twelve.  I've been told he was a great man, and it pains me to think that I never got to meet him.  But today, we went to Floral Hills to visit his grave and my great grandparent's and great aunt's grave.  It has been over a decade since I last went to his resting place..

Today is a day of remembering.  We remember and honor those who went before us.  We remember those who laid down their lives so that we could be free.  We remember and are reminded so that we won't forget.  Because if we lose those memories, and forget about what has been sacrificed so that we can live in freedom, we will stumble and lose what has been gained.  Never forget.

Ronald Reagan once said that, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.  We didn't pass it from our children in our bloodstream.  It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."  The way we remember what our ancestors gained is by story-telling.  If we are told of the stories of those who laid down their lives for us, we won't as easily stray.  Just as the law of the Lord is written on our hearts so that we won't forget.

"You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, ad when you lie down, and when you rise." - Deuteronomy 11:19

Missing you, Grandpa.

Floral Hills.
So, please, tell me stories about the saints of old, so that I will never forget.
