Music

Today we in Omnibus, we were discussing Psalms and music.  One of the topics touched upon was, "Does music affect our lives?"

To answer it very simply, yes.  Music has an enormous impact on our lives.  It's amazing how people say that normal music just goes through one ear and out the other.  But also, in another class, we learned that everything (even unintentionally) tries to convince someone of something.  Music is no exception to this.  By George, it is one of the most effective ways to convince someone of something.  Especially if the song is catchy, that is the danger of alot of music.

That brings us to the quality of music we listen to.  Christians should be conscience of what is going into their head.  If you're just sitting there listening to Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce, it's going to effect how you think.  And in turn, it will affect how you feel, and slowly, very slowly, it will change your philosophy.  It can easily change the way you believe in God.  It's that serious.

Now, I'm not saying that you should only listen to just Christian artists (which it isn't a bad start), but you need to guard your heart.  It is so easily affected just by a tune or a beat.  If you say, "I love this song!"  You need to be aware of why you love it.  So just be conscientious of what you're listening to, and make sure it is God-honoring.

(Here's some of my favorite Christian bands, and even some bands that aren't Christian.  But they are still enjoyable to listen to.)
