Top 5 Podcasts | 2020 Edition

Inspired by Spotify Wrapped, this list is brought to you by my-very-subjective-tastes.

This list is truly dictated by taste and interest.  In no particular order, I'll give a brief description of the podcast, some helpful notes, and then a brief reason for why they are in my top 5!

1.
The Steve Deace Show
Show Description: "Principled conservatism with a snarky twist served up daily."
Average Run Time: 1 hr 30 min.
Genre:  Political Commentary

Reason:  I began listening to Deace at the beginning of this year and found him to be a very engaging commentator!  More importantly, I found that much of his analysis was not tied to party lines, but rather to the Truth.  (Note the capital 'T').  He doesn't hide his faith.  He calls it like he sees it in a refreshingly honest way.  Although I may not agree with some of his exegesis and explanations for events, I have been able to sharpen the way I think by listening to this show.

Highly recommend, if you have the time for a long-form podcast.

2.
The Pat Mcafee Show

Show Description: "The Pat McAfee Show is a new weekday sports talk show that will feature McAfee’s intelligent, witty, and personal take on sports news and news makers. Listen live weekdays Noon-3PM Eastern on SIRIUS XM Channel 82."
Average Run Time: 3 hr 30 min.
Genre:  Sport Commentary

Reason:  Another 2020 find, and it has proven to be one of the most engaging, enjoyable, and entertaining national sports shows.  I was getting fed up with ESPN and FOX Sports, but Pat Mcafee and the boys know how to keep you entertained and also deliver some helpful analysis at the same time.  All that being said, it is certainly a secular show and there is plenty of profanity that is thrown about.  Buyer beware.

A solid recommendation if the listener has discerning ears and is in the position to listen to a 3 1/2 hr long show.

3.
The Doane Cast
Description:  "Acclaimed filmmaker Darren Doane enters the podcast realm with 30 years of stories, experience, interviews, tips, and the future of content creation.  Trigger warning: the gods of filmmaking will be cast down, preciousness will be mocked and those who actually do stuff will be greatly encouraged."
Length: Varies.  10-15 min.
Genre: Go-Getter, Hustle, Content Creation

Reason:  The description says it all ... Also a 2020 find!  This one won't be leaving the rotation anytime soon.  If nothing else, this podcast is a great motivator.  But it happens to be much more than that.  Listen to this show if you want to educate yourself on the uses of social media.

A strong recommendation.  Note the average length on this is conducive for a quick listening experience.

4.
Louder with Crowder

Description: "The NUMBER ONE conservative late night comedy show!!"
Length: 1 hr 30 min.
Genre:  Political Commentary, Humor

Reason:  The Louder with Crowder podcast is a very entertaining show!  Entering the year, it was one of my most-listened-to podcasts, but after awhile the varying cleanliness of the humor can be wearing.  Otherwise, Crowder and his squad offers some very helpful insights and are very thorough in the research that they do.

A solid recommendation!

5.
Proverbial
Description: "On every episode of Proverbial, teacher and author Joshua Gibbs (How to Be Unlucky: Reflections on the Pursuit of Virtue and Something They Will Not Forget: A Handbook for Classical Teachers) explores a single proverb, some old bit of wisdom, and tries to discern what it means for modern men."
Length: 30 min.
Genre:  Discernment, Wisdom Podcast

Reason:  I mean to get into this podcast more.  The insight and breakdown of proverbs by Joshua Gibbs has been a true blessing.  Proverbs by nature can become a cliche, but with his helpful commentary, the wisdom of the ancients can prove helpful once again.

A strong recommendation!

And that concludes my list!  What are your top 5?
